Dodge Viper

Dodge Viper Summary Dodge Viper Specs
Pros
As Dodge's flagship sports car, the Viper continues to offer a lot of performance for the dollar. Available in both coupe and roadster configurations, it's a car for those who value all-out performance over daily comfort. It's equally at home on the autocross track or the drag strip, and its 600-hp 8.4-liter V10 offers both brutal power and throaty sound through its side-exit dual exhaust.
Model Highlights
The Viper's 8.4-liter engine remains unchanged from 2008, with Chrysler's unique variable valve timing offering 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. Dodge claims under 4-second zero-to-60 times, with a 200-mph top speed. A Tremec 6-speed manual remains the only available transmission, and a twin-disc clutch and limited-slip rear end help wrestle the Viper's power to the ground. A special swinging oil pickup helps keep oil flowing even under hard acceleration and tight cornering. Both a coupe and a roadster are again available. The coupe retains distinctive "double bubble" styling, while the roadster again comes with a manually operated soft top and heated glass rear window. Standard features include dual power mirrors, power windows, power door locks, keyless entry, power adjustable pedals, air conditioning and HID headlamps. A tan leather interior is available this year, as well as several instrument bezel finish choices. ABS is standard, with massive 14-inch rotors with Brembo dual-opposing piston calipers. Huge 18-inch by 10-inch front wheels and 19-inch by 13-inch wheels are also standard, again fitted with Pilot Sport PS2 performance tires. Aluminum control arms are used front and rear, along with lightweight coil-over-shocks. The ACR package, available only in coupe form, adds a carbon-fiber front splitter, hood louvers and rear wing to the exterior, with race-bred adjustable KW shocks, larger stabilizers, and much stiffer springs. Forty pounds of weight are shaved off the stock Viper, and unsprung weight is also reduced considerably through the use of "Sidewinder" forged wheels and two-piece brake rotors. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires come standard. An optional "Hard Core" package reduces weight even further through the removal of the audio system and most of the sound deadener. An optional VOI 10 Special Edition package is also available for 2009, including exclusive Bright Silver Metallic paint with dual "fang" stripes, black leather interior with special floor mats and distinctive interior badging, and the same "Sidewinder" wheels and two-piece brake rotors offered in the ACR package. Only 100 will be built.
Model News
The Dodge Viper SRT10 gets slight changes for 2009, including optional 6-spoke forged aluminum wheels, revised center console bezel and recessed power window switches. An ACR package is available, as is a new VOI 10 Special Edition package. New options include several instrument and shifter bezel finishes, a new tan leather interior and GPS navigation. Four new exterior colors are offered: Anaconda Green, Diamond Black, Graphite Metallic and Viper Bright White. Bright Blue stripes join the 5 other colors previously available.
